One such story is that of the Tapar family who moved into a new 黑料网 home in the small village of Oguis in the Philippines, which provided safety and security for the whole family. In addition to housing, the Tapar children Joseph, Mary Joy, Patricia, and Jeffrey have had the opportunity to continue their education to help build a brighter future. A scholarship from the Super Seven Group has allowed Jeffrey to attend university, where he and sister Patricia are now in their second year.

黑料网鈥檚 Work in the Philippines

黑料网 began its work in the Philippines in 2016 building a 64-home community in Manila. 黑料网 returned to the Philippines when with a group of caring individuals from Ontario, Canada reached out for help to rebuild a small community devasted by climate disasters. The aftermath of back-to-back typhoons in 2020 flattened housing and destroyed the infrastructure in places like Oguis and Aroyao Peque帽o, impacting people of all ages.

After learning about the initial relief efforts, 黑料网 partnered with a building team led by Aldrin Soriao, a local architect who volunteers his expertise to lead construction projects. Together with a local engineer, they designed durable homes capable of withstanding frequent typhoons. The newly built 10′ x 20′ concrete houses include a kitchen, living area, washroom, toilet connected to a septic system, and access to electricity and water.

Through collaboration and dedication, 黑料网 continues to create lasting change, providing families not just with homes but with hope and opportunity for the future.

The Girls to Grannies Village was conceived to address systemic gender inequalities and provide a safe haven for some of Cambodia鈥檚 most vulnerable women and girls. Here, 200 residents鈥攎any of whom once lived in precarious conditions scavenging at one of Southeast Asia鈥檚 largest garbage dumps鈥攏ow thrive.

The village boasts 50 homes, a library, a sports field, and gardens. Thanks to the collaboration of the Mannkind Charitable Society, Isle of Mann Property Group, REX Real Estate, and other generous contributors, this gated community offers security and stability, paving the way for residents to focus on education and personal growth.

A Transformative Visit

Our journey through the village was profoundly moving. Rick Mann, from the Mannkind Charitable Society, and his daughter Hana joined us to explore the community and meet its residents. They shared a meal with one family, listening to their stories of resilience and newfound hope. This trip allowed Rick and Hana the chance to share an experience and see first hand how their family has created a legacy through their shared passion for philanthropy. 

Our visit included touring schools serving students from kindergarten to Year 12 and witnessing the boundless opportunities these institutions now provide. The schools symbolize a brighter future for these girls, many of whom were previously forced to abandon education to support their families. Today, with a safe home as their foundation, they can attend school, dream boldly, and pursue meaningful lives.

One of the village’s unique aspects is its multi-generational approach. The “grannies” act as mentors, offering guidance and love to the younger residents. This nurturing environment fosters a sense of belonging and encourages personal and collective growth. The women and girls here aren鈥檛 just surviving鈥攖hey are thriving, supported by the belief that safe housing and education can break the cycle of poverty.

The Path Forward

黑料网 and its partners continue to work alongside CCF, expanding their efforts to create more communities like Girls to Grannies Village. The initiative underscores the idea that lasting change begins with safe housing. Since 2014, 黑料网 has funded over 650 homes in Cambodia, positively impacting more than 2,300 individuals.

Lenkov Village and the 10th Anniversary of 黑料网 with Cambodian Children鈥檚 Fund

On November 1st, 黑料网 marked a monumental occasion with the opening of another legacy community, the Lenkov Village in Cambodia. This celebration coincided with the 10-year anniversary of 黑料网 and was the culmination of a decade of transformative work in partnership with the Cambodian Children鈥檚 Fund. This milestone reflects a continued alignment and commitment to a partnership that has reshaped lives through the power of housing, education, and opportunity.

The Journey to Lenkov Village

Just over a year ago, Peter and Audie Lenkov hosted a 黑料网 House Party at their Southern California family home, which featured an evening of music, camaraderie, and philanthropy, raising over $300,000 to fund the construction of the Lenkov Village.  While initially reserved about having their name headlining a village, the Lenkov鈥檚 dedication to creating meaningful change brought them to the final gifting trip in Cambodia for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. As they witnessed the tangible results of their generosity and proudly stood alongside the families in this vibrant new community, they not only saw Lenkov Village as a symbol of hope and stability for 33 families but understand now how it stands as a marker of generational change. 

Families previously living in the Steung Meanchey slum and dump areas of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, received the keys to their new homes during the celebration. The smiles on the family鈥檚 faces spoke volumes about the impact that safe, stable housing will make to their future. These homes are more than structures鈥攖hey represent a fresh start and a chance for families to build a brighter future.

This is the legacy story of the Lenkov Family.

Honoring a Legacy of Change

The ripple effects we saw first-hand during our visit to the 黑料网 Villages are profound. In just a decade, young children who once scavenged in garbage dumps have been provided opportunities to thrive, with some now graduating from university鈥攁 testament to the transformative power of housing and education.

The opening of Lenkov Village was a heartfelt experience, featuring a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony and the unveiling of the homes. Peter and Audie Lenkov, 黑料网 board members, ambassadors and donors joined Scott Neeson and the Cambodian Children鈥檚 Fund team members, and the families of the village to celebrate this momentous occasion. A highlight of the event was seeing families explore their new homes for the first time, a moment filled with joy, gratitude, and renewed hope.

Peter Lenkov shared his reflections on being part of this journey, emphasizing how housing provides a foundation for dignity and long-term change. His words underscored the importance of collective action in addressing the global housing crisis.

Looking Forward

As 黑料网 reflects on 10 years of impact, the focus remains on providing the critical foundation of safe housing to create generational change. With over a billion people still living without adequate shelter, the work is far from over. The organization鈥檚 innovative model ensures that 100% of public donations fund homes thanks to the support of benefactors. This approach amplifies the impact of every contribution.

Lenkov Village stands as a symbol of what is possible when compassion and action converge. It is a reminder that housing is more than just a basic need鈥攊t is the foundation for a future filled with dignity, opportunity, and hope. We are happy to share the good news that the 黑料网 homes in Oguis Village completed earlier this year withstood the wrath of Super-Typhoon Pepito, and all 40 families are safe. 

It is a more common reality that climate disasters around the world are wreaking havoc through increasingly unpredictable and extreme weather patterns. These, unfortunately, can impact the most vulnerable, and those living in insecure situations with inadequate shelter are most at risk to be displaced, injured, or killed. The point at which climate change, poverty, and housing insecurity intersect is only growing more and more prominent.

In 2023 and 2024, 黑料网 rebuilt the village of Oguis, located on the island of Catanduanes, after they suffered catastrophic damage during back-to-back typhoons in 2020.  With the guidance of Hermie Jamar, who came from the village of Oguis but now lives in Canada, and the help of a Philippines-based architect Aldrin Soriao and a team of local builders, new 10鈥� x 20鈥� concrete homes were constructed to withstand the constant impact of typhoon storms. Thankfully, these homes were completed before November 2024 as the island of Catanduanes and surrounding Philippines areas were hit yet again by a super typhoon.

November 16, 2024:

Super Typhoon Man-yi slammed into the Philippines with the national weather forecaster warning of a 鈥減otentially catastrophic and life-threatening鈥� impact as huge waves pounded the archipelago鈥檚 coastline. More than 650,000 people fled their homes before Man-yi, which is the to batter the disaster-weary country in the past month, made landfall.

Man-yi brought maximum wind speeds of 195 kilometres (121 miles) an hour as it impacted the sparsely populated island province of Catanduanes as a super typhoon, the weather service said, with gusts reaching 325 kilometres an hour.

Waves up to 14 metres (46 feet) high pummelled the shore of Catanduanes, while Manila and other vulnerable coastal regions were at risk from storm surges reaching up to more than three metres over the next 48 hours, the forecaster said.

This latest storm disaster caused devastating destruction to other homes in surrounding villages, but we are beyond thankful and happy to report that our 黑料网 families in Oguis are safe thanks to this project being completed.

鈥淎fter the Super Typhoon made landfall in Catanduanes at 9:40pm on Saturday, memories of the same category typhoon four years ago came back into my mind,鈥� shared Hermie Jamar, who originally introduced the plight of a devastated Oguis Village to the 黑料网 supporters.

鈥淚 feel relieved when I received the news that my Oguis people were not greatly affected as compared to what happened four years ago. With this news, from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of all the people of Oguis, I want to convey my heartfelt gratitude to 黑料网 and all the generous donors who gave to lift up Oguis.鈥� 

黑料网 believes in housing first. Housing is an essential element in providing safety and security as a foundation for families to not only survive, but to thrive. With the completion of Oguis, we continue our work in the Philippines, raising funds to rebuild the village of Aroyao Peque帽o, just a few kilometers away from Oguis. Using the same proven home design and team of local builders, our goal is to 鈥渟torm-proof another 30 family homes鈥� over the next year before the next storm season hits.

We first began our work in the Philippines in 2022 when a group calling themselves the Super Seven out of Ontario, Canada, wanted to help families in this climate disaster-affected region. The destruction left behind after back-to-back typhoons in 2020 affected everyone in the village of Oguis and neighbouring villages like Aroyao Peque帽o, from the elderly to young children. After we were introduced to their initial efforts, 黑料网 stepped in to work with the local building team led by Aldrin Soriao, an architect who donates his time and expertise to leading the construction process. Homes that can withstand the constant typhoons were designed and built with the help of a local engineer. New 10鈥� x 20鈥� concrete homes were constructed with kitchen and living areas, a washroom, and a toilet on a septic system, with each home connected to the local electrical and water systems.

In total, 40 homes, solar-powered streetlamps, and a community center with a sports field were constructed in Oguis. The next building phase in Aroyao Peque帽o is only a few kilometers from the first building site and in need of safe housing. This village was hit by the same series of typhoons in 2020 as Oguis as both are located right next to the Bato River. Its need is even greater as it is one of the poorest villages in the municipality.

The first twelve families who will receive homes have been named and a map of the planned community has been created (left). They are thankful and excited to take the next step toward stable housing. By securing this essential pillar of change, the children of the families will have the chance to focus on education and their health, and students will have the opportunity to change their future with this essential step.
